Do-It-Yourself Toddler and Children’s Furniture is Fun and Cost Saving
Many parents opt for contemporary furniture when furnishing their toddler or children’s bedrooms. Modem furniture is functional, easy to care for and available in many styles and price ranges. As your baby grows out of the nursery, he/she will be going through many changes and leaving the safety of the crib. If you enjoy decorating and are handy with craft projects, now is the time to create that special toddler room for your little one.
Unfinished or unpainted wood furniture is a modern and fun choice for children’s furniture. Imagine the options! Besides saving you money, the creative options are endless; a toddler bed painted in soft yellow with bright colored cars on the head and foot board, a matching toy chest painted with the same motif. Or, a pale pink toddler bed painted with multi-colored flowers and a rainbow.
Tests have shown that children love bright colors because they are fun and energizing. Red, blue and yellow are a great non-gender color scheme for toddlers as well. It is also practical if you are expecting to have more children down the line – neutral colors can be used with either sex – simply swap the toddler bedding to suit the child and add a few of the toddler’s personal items such as toys or decorations to give the room a different feel. Always ask the child if he/she has any special ideas.
Unfinished furniture gives you the opportunity to create something special and customize your toddler’s room. If you don’t like the idea of painting the furniture yourself, have a professional do it for you. Stains are easy and quick to apply yourself and you don’t have to be an artist to paint on furniture. Hardware stores sell stencils that can be used as patterns to paint on dressers, beds, toy chests, and small chairs. Remember, whatever paint or finish you decide on, it should be 100% lead and toxic free.
